Wilmington Community Unit School District is a four-school district located in the Kankakee River Valley, 50 miles southwest of Chicago. Our close-knit community walks united with our schools every day to set our students up for excellence in our K–12 schools and beyond.

We invite you to take the time to get to know our district and our schools. We know you’ll be impressed by all that we offer our community. Along with classrooms steeped in rigorous curriculum, our students enjoy valuable health services, and our foundation provides the resources needed for exceptional instructional opportunities. A Message from Our Superintendent

Dear Wilmington Families,

Welcome to the website of the Wilmington School District 209U, home of the Wilmington Wildcats! As a proud member of the Wilmington High School Graduating Class of 1992, I am both humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve the students and families of Wilmington as the superintendent of schools of the Wilmington School District.

The teachers, administration, and school board members of the Wilmington School District are undoubtedly, extremely proud of the two-time state champion WHS Competitive Cheerleading program (2016 and 2019), our two-time state champion (2014 and 2021)— and 2007 state runner-up—Wilmington Wildcat football program, the Wildcat Wrestling dynasty three-peat dual team state champs (2007, 2008, and 2009) and two-time state runner-up (2006 and 2017), the inspiring baseball state titles of 2003 and 2005, and a great number of individual state-wide recognitions earned by our student-athletes over the years.

We are also blessed to recognize the honors earned by many current and former IMEA regional and state-recognized musicians, some unbelievably talented theatrical performers, and speech competitors excelling on center stage, along with many other talented visual artists on display.

However, we must always remember that the daily comprehensive education of our children is the Wilmington School District’s core mission. A tremendous amount of hard work and intense effort takes place on a daily basis by the talented students, dedicated teachers, tremendous support staff, and administrative team of the Wilmington School District with this main focus in mind: school and community united for excellence in education – encouraging, engaging, and empowering all students.

The past two years have truly presented not only us in Wilmington, but everyone all throughout the world, with some very unique and challenging obstacles to overcome. I am so unbelievably proud of the strength, compassion, and perseverance which has been shown by our students, families, staff... and the entire community. We are so grateful to have been able to connect in person with our students all throughout the past two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wildcat pride runs deep all throughout the Wilmington School District and the entire community of Wilmington. It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to serve our kids and families as the superintendent of schools. As always... Go, Wildcats!

In Wildcat Pride,

Matt Swick
