What is Title Ix?

The mistreatment of others is not tolerated in the Wilmington School District. Our board policies, administrative plans, and school handbooks strictly forbid behaviors such as sexual harassment, as well as harassment, bullying, intimidation, or discrimination of any kind.

The Wilmington School District Board of Education, administration, faculty, and staff commit to creating and maintaining a physically, emotionally, and intellectually safe educational environment free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination. The purpose of established policies, procedures, and plans is to ensure, to the greatest extent possible, that no one within our school community will be subject to any mistreatment, experiencing a secure, safe, orderly, respectful, and nurturing environment that promotes teaching and learning.

Sexual harassment affects a student’s ability to learn and an employee’s ability to work. Providing an educational and workplace environment free from sexual harassment is an important district goal. The district does not discriminate on the basis of sex in any of its education programs or activities, and it complies with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) and its implementing regulations (34 C.F.R. Part 106) concerning everyone in the district's education programs and activities, including applicants for employment, students, parents/guardians, employees, and third parties.

The Wilmington School District’s complete Title IX Sexual Harassment Grievance Process is found in Board Policy 2:265 as a part of the board policies.
